23 km Elevated Road to Sohna
Sohna Road, the lifeline of South of Gurgaon, will soon be a 23-km elevated road starting from Rajiv Chawk on NH 8 to Sohna. The elevated road will be built on single poles, which would also make six lanes available for traffic movement, beneath the elevated highway. Also, the Sohna Road, is now been upgraded to National Highway 248 and it extends till Alwar in Rajasthan.
Current Status: The elevated road project is expected to start by August 2017 with the laying of the foundation stone by Nitin Gadhkari. The tenders for the project have already been floated.
Potential Impact: Once completed, this elevated road will help motorists get to Sohna, about 23km away, in far quicker time than they do now. With this the entire area will have no bottlenecks and the connectivity would be smooth. Sohna road is a part of Sohna-Alwar highway, an important route for Rajasthan and Haryana, over which around 50,000 vehicles travel every day. It is also used for transportation of dairy products for Gurgaon and Delhi.
Kundli - Manesar - Palwal Expressway (KMP)
The KMP Expressway is a 135.6 km (84.3 mi) long crossing national highways, NH 44 at Kundli (Sonepat), NH 10 just northwest of Bahadurgarh Jhajjar, NH 8 south of Manesar, NH 71B southwest of Sohna and NH 2 south of Palwal.
Current Status: The Manesar to Palwal stretch is operational. About 70 per cent of the civil work on the 83-km stretch between Manesar and Kundli has been completed and the remaining construction is expected to be done by the end of 2017.
Potential Impact: The Manesar-Palwal section of the KMP Expressway which passes through Sohna has resulted in seamless connectivity of South of Gurgaon. On completion, the project is expected to fast track the planned alternate economic hubs such as IMT Sohna. The industrial and the real sectors are also expected to revive.
Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC)
The 1504 Kms Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor, also known as the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor passes through South of Gurgaon, close to Sohna. It is conceived to be developed as a Model Industrial Corridor of international standards with emphasis on expanding the manufacturing and services base and develop DMIC as the a Global Manufacturing and Trading Hub. The programme has been conceptualized in partnership and collaboration with Government of Japan with the objective to facilitate the manufacturing sector of the country through significant time reduction in movement of goods in the country.
Current Status: The Delhi - Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) is expected to be completed by 2018-19. In the first phase eight new industrial cities are being developed.
Potential Impact: The corridor will provide boost to the planned industrial development enroute its length including Industrial Model Township (IMT) of Sohna. This will also help in the development of infrastructure linkages like power plants, assured water supply, high capacity transportation and logistics facilities as well as softer interventions like skill development programme for employment of the local populace.
South of Gurgaon is set to emerge as the next axis of industrial and commercial development in Delhi (NCR). The Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Agency (HSIIDC) has acquired about 1,700 acres of land in Roz Ka Meo, nearly 26km from Gurgaon, to establish a new industrial township called IMT Sohna.
Current Status: The IMT Sohna is under-construction at present. It is expected to be completed by 2020.
Potential Impact: The landscape of the region through expected presence of non polluting industrial occupiers, which in turn will propel South of Gurgaon into the league of other major industrial ares such as Manesar, Bhiwadi etc.
Proposed 60 Meter Road
A 60 meter road connecting Sector 63 A to Sohna has been proposed by the Sohna Development plan 2031. The road will eventually connect Sector 5 of Sohna, covering a total distance of 8 km.
Current Status: Huda had started the land acquisition process for the given road around eight years ago. But the 2-km-long road dividing sectors 66-67 has remained incomplete in a stretch of around half-a-kilometre mainly due to 30 structures coming in the way of its alignment. The final date of completion is yet to be ascertained.
Potential Impact: Once complete, the road will run parallel to the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and will not only reduce commuting time to Sohna but also decongest Sohna Road. With the completion of the road dividing sectors 66-67, people coming from Golf Course Extension Road will be able to directly reach Sohna bypassing congested areas such as Vatika Chowk and Badshapur village. It will also reduce the traffic load on Sohna Road and nearby areas.
Metro Line Connectivity
A new metro route alignment passing through Golf Course Extension and Southern Peripheral Road till Manesar on NH 8 has been proposed under the Gurgaon Manesar Urban Complex Master Plan 2031. There is also a proposal to extend the Metro line from Huda City Centre to Old Gurgaon Railway Station passing through Rajiv Chawk.
Current Status: At present, the alignment to Manesar is proposed. A lot will depend on the pace of urbanization in this area. As far as the connectivity to the railway station is concerned, DMRC is preparing a feasibility report on this and is in the planning stage. The project timelines for both are not ascertained as yet.
Potential Impact: Once operational, it would provide seamless connectivity options to the commuters having their offices and residences in the region. The line to Manesar will put this area in direct touch with a large part of the NCR. The connectivity to the railway station will open out more commuting options.
Southern Peripheral Road (SPR)
The SPR will be a 150 meter wide road passing through Badshahpur chawk that will link NH 8 near sector 74A. The 16km long will also connect Dwarka Expressway to the Golf Course Road.
Current Status: Approx. 7 kms connecting Sohna Road (Badshahpur Chawk) to Golf Course Road is operational since 2009, while the remaining portion connecting Sohna Road to NH 8 (approx. 5.4 kms) is yet to be operational. Most of the road works is almost complete and is expected to be fully operational by 2017.
Potential Impact: Once fully operational, it would help provide seamless connectivity to commuters from South Gurgaon to locations along NH 8 and further to Dwarka Expressway. This will also lead to an alternate entry route to Delhi for people travelling from Sohna and surrounding areas. The area has turned into a heady mix of commercial as well as residential hubs with soaring skyscrapers, posh residential colonies, and bustling commercial complexes.
